Is the name of this congregtion "Our Savior" or "Our Savior's"?
The simple answer is "Yes." Formed in 1950 as "Our Savior's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mankato, Blue Earth County, Minnesota," our congregation has become known as different combinations of this title: "Our Savior's Lutheran Church" and "Our Savior's Lutheran, Mankato" and others. In 2008, the congregation refiled our Articles of Incorporation with the State of Minnesota. Previously, our incorporation had been filed only with Blue Earth County. When we did this, we gave "Our Savior Lutheran Church" located in Mankato, MN as our legal name. But since we had already done legal business in the County under the older name, now we would have an AKA or "Also Known As" name. Furthermore, to prevent any other congregation from using our former name, we filed "doing business as" documents for the name "Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Mankato."
The bottom line is that both names - with and without the 's - are legal names of the congregation. Our listing as a Minnesota Corporation does not use the 's because computer databases don't work well with posessive names. But our older name - with the 's - is still registered with Blue Earth County so that we can keep using it and no one else can.
So you'll see us using both names, mixing them up when it doesn't matter and being careful to use the correct name when it does matter. Mankato may have an "Our Savior Lutheran Church" and an "Our Savior's Lutheran Church" but both names represent the same congregation.
